Richard Matson Scholar: Kimberley Selly

Kimberley Selly, second year BSc Veterinary Nursing with Small Animal Rehabilitation student and recipient of the Richard Matson Scholarship.

“The scholarship will enable me to further improve my knowledge in my chosen course area by purchasing textbooks and workbooks. Having the ability to annotate and work through my own books will give me extra opportunity to excel in my degree. Also, the funding will mean I am able to support myself during my vital placement year”, says Kimberley, 19.

“Becoming a Veterinary Nurse will give me the opportunity to work in a field that I enjoy, and I can be a part of a larger community of other people who also share the same views and aspirations. I intend to progress within my career by carrying out further study to become more knowledgeable in specific areas such as the equine field, which I have been heavily involved in throughout my life.

“I feel very privileged and thankful to have been chosen to receive funding from such an important member of the equine and agricultural industry. Another reason for applying was to give myself some extra funding that will reduce money-related stress.”

For Kimberley, from Tenbury Wells, Shropshire, country pursuits and charitable acts hold special places in her heart. “In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my two year-old Jack Russell and working with my mum at an international dressage yard, where I spend a lot of time caring for and exercising the horses. I am also heavily involved with my Uncle’s pheasant and duck shoot that I attend and participate in during shooting season.

“I have also spent lots of time fundraising for various charities. My biggest achievement so far was a sky dive with three friends, where we raised nearly £3000 for Acorn’s Children’s Hospice.”
